In her own words…
Growing up, I was always inspired by women who were involved in business and entrepreneurship. Little did I know that I would eventually follow in their footsteps. Ours is Ramachandrapuram near Podagatlapalli in East Godavari district. This is the place where I was born and raised. I got married to Suryanarayana Raju, a software engineer when I was eighteen years old. He was employed in Hyderabad. At that time, the children of relatives and friends used to stay in our house to learn computer courses in Ameerpet. The elders in the family and friends used to admire me for doing any work enthusiastically. Then our neighbor Kanta aunty very much impressed with my work, energy and relationship building skills, encouraged me to start something of my own and even joined me in taking English speaking and beautician courses.
In the meantime, we went to UK and America for my husband’s work. At that time we had to depend on relatives for the maintenance of our flat here. Asking for help over and over is a problem but still there were no options then depending on friends or family.
We came back to Hyderabad after 14 years living abroad. When I returned, my relatives and friends in foreign countries used to ask me for such help and inquire me about investment opportunities. After observing all this, I came up with the idea of turning this into a business. So six years ago ‘Veda NRI Services’ started. In the early days, it was a tough task, some people around me used to say ‘girls should stay comfortably at home, why do risky things’. However family members encouraged me. Worked hard to get an understanding of all the complications and legal difficulties that may arise in this field and proceeded further.
What we do…
A lot of NRIs working abroad want to settle back in India and buy properties. They want someone to take care of them. But who has time to help each other in busy lives? We will do that. We take care of renting their flats, interior, repairs, buying and selling of properties. In the early days, we used to serve the Telugu people who have settled abroad. Now we have customers all over the country. We are proud to say that now more than 50% of our clients are from other states. We will take some amount depending on the services provided to them. If we want to do the interior of a house.. we will select at least three companies that offer interior services. We will give the opportunity to those who quote the lowest. We ensure that our clients get the best value for their money. Our unique approach and top-quality workmanship has attracted more people to our services.
There are problems…
Challenges are common at every step of business! Especially in the case of rented houses, it should be ensured that there is no problem with the neighbors, renters and the owner. Care must be taken to avoid legal entanglements while buying property. More like this! I don’t feel tired because I like doing it. We are looking after the management of over 600 properties in West Hyderabad. Their value is in crores of rupees! There are hundreds of clients in communities like Aparna, My home, Kalpataru and Jayabheri. Domestic and foreign real estate companies are also interested in working with us. Along with this, we have started another company called ‘Veda’s Shop and Ship’. We are doing shopping for NRIs, guiding the purchases and delivering the goods. Thirteen out of fifteen people working with us are women. My goal is to provide opportunities to more people in the future.
